Choice

By Jeremy D. Joy

“And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me an my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15).

Martin Luther who sparked the Reformation once stated: “Choice is the rudder of our lives as we sail on the seas of God’s providence.” God could have created us as robots without a will, but instead He created us with the power of choice. We can choose God; we can choose His will; and we can choose to fulfill His purpose in our lives. God chooses us (Ephesians 1:4) and then we choose to accomplish the plans and purposes of God for which we have been chosen (Philippians 3:12). Like Paul, following Jesus should be the passion of our heart, but it is more than fulfilling our destiny; it is choosing the will of God that will lead to our ultimate destiny, which is Heaven. What is your choice?
