Death

By Jeremy D. Joy

“It is better to go to a house of mourning than to a house of feasting, for death is the destiny of every man; the living should take this to heart” (Ecclesiastes 7:2 NIV).

The Bible teaches that we should live better lives in view of death, but the only way to have such a mindset is to be free from the power of death, which is possible through Jesus. For men and women who know that Jesus conquered death at the cross, death is nothing to fear, but remembering death helps us remove the unimportant from our lives. Winston Churchill stated: “When the notes of life ring false, men should correct them by referring to the tuning fork of death.” When we look back at our lives from the edge of the grave, some things will seem small and insignificant, but we may regret not loving more fully, not making a difference in more lives, not giving more generously, and not devoting ourselves more completely to God. Live like you were dying!
